Thousands of residents in Festac Town, under Amuwo-Odofin LGA, have formally petitioned the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority following the discontinuation of a dedicated bus route that once served the estate and connected it to key commercial areas on the mainland. Since the route was scrapped, residents say they have been forced to rely on expensive commercial tricycles and irregular minibuses that are often overcrowded and unreliable. The petition, which gathered over 3,000 signatures within a week, argues that Festac Town’s large residential population and its significant elderly and physically challenged community makes a formal bus service a public necessity rather than a luxury. A community elder and retired civil servant said many residents, particularly those without private vehicles, are now socially isolated. Transport officials have confirmed receipt of the petition and say a review of route viability will be conducted.
