The deplorable state of Ipaja Road in Alimosho LGA has become a source of daily anguish for tens of thousands of commuters who rely on the corridor. What was once a major arterial road connecting Alimosho to the Lagos mainland has developed into a stretch of potholes, exposed gutters, and sunken sections that cause accidents and damage to vehicles regularly. Transport operators say they have had to significantly increase their maintenance costs because of the road, and some have begun avoiding the route entirely, making it harder for residents to find affordable public transport. A commercial bus driver said he has changed his tyres three times in four months largely due to the road conditions. Residents held a peaceful protest last week calling on the federal and state governments to prioritise the rehabilitation of the road. The House of Assembly member representing the district has called for an emergency allocation to address the situation.
