Short Description

Traders displaced from a demolished roadside market in Ikorodu have been resettled in a newly constructed market complex.

Details

Over 400 traders who were displaced when the old roadside market on the Ikorodu-Sagamu Expressway service road was demolished as part of a traffic decongestion exercise have finally been resettled in a newly constructed market complex officially allocated to them by the Ikorodu LGA. The new facility, which took over a year to complete following repeated delays, includes covered stalls, a waste management infrastructure, motorable internal access roads, and basic sanitation facilities. Traders expressed mixed feelings at the reopening ceremony, with many grateful for a permanent and organised trading space while others raised concerns about the distance from the original market location and the reduced foot traffic. The LGA chairman who presided over the event urged traders to maintain the new market and warned that the LGA would enforce strict sanitation and trading regulations. Arrangements are being finalised for water supply and electricity connection to the facility.
