Residents and traders who live and operate across the Badagry Creek are calling on the Lagos State Waterways Authority to restore a functional and regular ferry service following the near-total collapse of the public ferry schedule that once connected communities on both sides. Since the primary ferry vessel was taken out of service several months ago for what officials described as routine maintenance, no replacement has been provided. Residents are now relying entirely on small wooden boats operated by private individuals, which are unregulated, often overloaded, and many describe as dangerous. A market woman who crosses the creek daily to sell her produce said she feared for her life every time she made the trip. Following a near-capsizing incident last month that injured two passengers, community leaders have escalated their calls for urgent government action. The Waterways Authority has been asked to provide a definitive timeline for the return of the official ferry or the deployment of an interim replacement.
