Residents of the Isolo community in Oshodi-Isolo LGA are petitioning the Lagos State Ministry of Environment and the LGA administration to urgently intervene in the completion of a drainage rehabilitation project that was started eight months ago but has been abandoned mid-construction, leaving gaping open trenches along several streets that have become hazardous obstacles for pedestrians and motorists alike. The uncovered trenches have been responsible for at least four documented injuries, including a motorcyclist who fell into an open section at night and sustained serious leg injuries. Children in the neighbourhood have been warned repeatedly not to play near the trenches. Community members say the contractor demobilised without notice and that attempts to contact the supervising government official have gone unanswered. A formal petition to the commissioner for environment has been submitted and residents are demanding a public explanation and a concrete completion timeline.
