Healthcare workers at three primary health centres under the Agege LGA have commenced an indefinite sit-down strike following what they describe as seven months of outstanding hazard allowances and shift differentials that the LGA administration has repeatedly promised but failed to pay. The strike, declared by the local chapter of the health workers’ union, has affected outpatient services, immunisation sessions, and antenatal clinics. Patients who arrived at the facilities on Monday morning were turned away or asked to return when the situation is resolved. Union representatives say the workers are not abandoning their posts entirely but will only attend to emergency cases while the dispute remains unresolved. The Agege LGA chairman has reportedly asked for another two weeks to process the backlog of payments. Union leaders say they have heard that promise too many times and will not call off the strike until full payment is confirmed.
