Over 200 pupils at a public primary school in the Egbeda area of Alimosho LGA are attending classes without desks or chairs, forcing them to sit on bare concrete floors or on pieces of wood they bring from home. Teachers say the situation has persisted for over a year after the old furniture became too damaged to use and was removed. A parent who visited the school for a routine meeting described the scene as heartbreaking, with young children hunched over their notebooks on the floor while trying to concentrate. The school headteacher has submitted multiple requisition letters to the Alimosho LGA education desk but says she has not received any response. A parents-teachers association has begun a local fundraising drive to procure at least basic plastic chairs for the classrooms. Community advocates are demanding that the state Universal Basic Education Board urgently address the furniture shortage across public schools in the LGA.
