Short Description

Road construction activities on Adeola Odeku Street are creating severe gridlock during morning and evening rush hours on Victoria Island.

Details

Commuters and business operators on Victoria Island are growing increasingly frustrated as ongoing road rehabilitation works on Adeola Odeku Street have drastically reduced carriageway width, causing severe traffic congestion that stretches back several kilometres during peak hours. The construction, which is part of a broader Lagos State road improvement programme, has narrowed the road to a single lane in both directions at one critical stretch. Business owners say staff are arriving late and leaving early to avoid the gridlock, while courier companies report delivery timelines being significantly disrupted. A banker who works at one of the towers along the corridor described spending over two hours in traffic for what is normally a 20-minute commute. The Lagos State Public Works Corporation has urged patience, stating that the project is expected to be completed within eight weeks. Commuters however say more traffic management personnel are needed at the affected junctions.
