Short Description

Residents of Brickfield Road are stranded once more as heavy overnight rain causes another round of flooding in the area.

Details

Heavy rainfall that began late Tuesday night left several streets in Surulere submerged by early Wednesday morning, with Brickfield Road among the worst affected. Residents woke up to find water levels reaching knee height in some sections, making movement on foot almost impossible and trapping vehicles. This is the third time this rainy season the road has flooded to this degree. A local trader who operates a provisions store near the junction said she lost goods worth tens of thousands of naira as water entered her shop. Residents are blaming a blocked drainage channel that they say has not been cleared in months despite repeated complaints to the local government. A community leader in the area has called on the Surulere LGA public works office to urgently deploy a drainage cleaning crew before the next round of expected rainfall later this week.
